Hated working in healthcare. Did not like patient facing clinical work or administration. Became depressed. Left the Baby Groot with Headphones T-Shirt But I will love this healthcare field entirely from burnout. Now in B2B Software Sales. Finally found something I was decent at and moderately enjoyed. Then laid off in 2022 due to economic recession despite meeting quota. Joined new company end of 2022. Immediately found the work environment toxic with unreasonable expectations for Sales. I underperformed on quota but placed in top half of team leaderboard. Then our team was reduced due to ongoing economic recession. Currently looking for another job but questioning if I should even return to Sales once the job market is better. Can’t seem to catch a break and figure out a long term career. I’ve been laid off 3 times now. I want to build career longevity and pay down my student debt ASAP and have barely built any savings and retirement fund. Obviously need to make high income to even break even. At this point I’ll soon worse off at age 40 than where I was at age 22 as a fresh grad. I can feel my depression creeping up and have started therapy but unemployed so have very basic insurance. It has to be said, you don’t necessarily have to like your job. I have a guy that comes out every few years and pumps the shit out of my septic tank. I doubt if he looks forward to Mondays That’s kind of the vibe I’m getting. At some point, even if your job isn’t your favorite thing, so long as it’s not 100% toxic environment, you may need to suck it up for a while. The burnout means you look for a different job perhaps, but likely stay in the same field. All this continuous jumping around makes me wonder if they’re looking for a perfect, 100% amazing position. That’s is extremely rare. Yes, this! I love to bake. I thought opening a bakery would be fun. Figured I might try it out. Bake for friends and sell some. It was horrible. I hated having to do something that I loved for profit. So kept the engineering job that pays the bills and enjoy my hobby of baking and give my friends what I make. Not necessarily what they want, but it’s fun making what I want.

My good buddy has played paintball his whole life, since he was 12 or 13. Several years ago (2011) he took over an established paintball shop here in town and got completely burned out after a few years and sold it in 2015. He told me he went from going out to the Baby Groot with Headphones T-Shirt But I will love this field maybe 40-50 times a year to maybe 3 or 4 the last year because all he did at work was talk about paintball. Nowadays, I look for decent compensation, good colleagues, non-toxic boss and worklife balance. Happineas is relatively low on my list. Way too many people are thinking like this. Lots of people say they love their jobs, but pretty much none of them would keep showing up if they stopped being paid. By loving their job, they really mean “is tolerable as far as jobs go.” This isn’t necessarily true. I truly enjoy doing my job. That being said, I enjoy spending time with my family more. So would I quit if I wasn’t paid? Sure….but it isn’t because I don’t enjoy my job ….there are just things I enjoy more.
