Couples need to consider their financial position, their careers, their free time, their ability to cope with a(nother) small person running around they need to take care of, loads of things. If you’re announcing that you’re trying for a baby, you’re telling friends/family that you feel ready to take that extra step and you’re excited to be expanding your family. Trying to make it all about sex and pretending to be grossed out by that just smacks of immaturity and inexperience. I doubt many of the people making this joke have children of their own.

Or maybe just be happy for people who are trying.
