Before I could even see the Awesome just A Girl Who Loves Anime and Sketching Shirt and I love this total on the screen, the lady said “We are asking for a donation”. Then the screen showed several donation options. I hit “Decline” right away and with a pissed-off tone the lady said, “never mind!”. I think we are all tired of being asked for extra money every time we do any kind of transaction, whether it’s tips or donations or whatever, and being shamed if decide not to do so. I’ll tip at a full-service restaurant and I’ll tip my Lyft/Uber drivers, but other than that I just want to have the freedom to go shopping or pick-up food, without this constant begging. If I want to be charitable, I will donate cash or food to a homeless person or go online and donate to a charity of my choice.I donate to the charities that I choose not the ones that corporations choose for me.

I have a recurring donation to Wikipedia set up. Something tiny, like $4 a year. When they hit their fundraising time of year they send me a link in an email that disables the Awesome just A Girl Who Loves Anime and Sketching Shirt and I love this begging banner. This dumb bs is spouted all the time here. That’s not how it works, despite what you read in a Reddit comment section. You quite possibly are correct, however we all hate greedy corporations, especially when they pester us with donation asks at checkout. If people want to donate their money or time to charity, I’m all for it but when every retail place in existence does it and slows down checkout with unnecessary steps, they can shove it where the sun don’t shine! This is not true. Companies that collect donations on behalf of organizations cannot claim those donations as tax deductions. This is a widely believed myth.
