On top of the taxes the governments (federal, state, and local) we have to pay out of pocket for everything and pay sales tax on it. Health insurance comes out of our salary as does the cost of using that insurance at a doctors. I have one kid in not-fancy preschool that costs me $18,000/year. I know I’m in a fortunate situation now and it sickens me that others have to struggle with this crap. I remember the days of not being able to afford a trip to the ER while passing kidney stones and hate that in this “rich” nation people still have to choose between debilitating pain and eating for week.
