Generally a lot of charity work actually just kills local economies to the benefit of us in the global north “feeling charitable”. Unless someone asks for help, we shouldn’t just stomp in and mess up everything like we always do. Case in point: a lot of “development aid” is basically just a hidden subsidy for western companies. Besides, it’s kind of arrogant to tell other countries they are “less developed” and should aim to become like us. The rich? They don’t know about issues in Africa, they don’t know about issues in their own towns and cities. Not just don’t know, but don’t care. Unless some homeless person is sleeping in the car they left unlocked, zero recognition. Do you think the people who’s lives are improved care? But also he uses the money raised from any of his charity videos to go back into the charity work. So big popular views do increase his image, but any of the direct profits from them go back into more charity work. Not to mention he can do more for raising awareness about many problems than most other charities can. Which means a lot of smaller donations go to those causes that otherwise wouldn’t have because he made a big video with tens of millions of views.

And any charity that doesn’t spend any of their time talking about their work and broadcasting that to people, will generally have next to no impact unless they’re funded by a billionaire or something. Charities need people to have heard of them and donate money. To do that you need to talk about what you did afterwards and loudly.
