I never thought I’d be able to do it alone. Then when I was 20, I went on my first trip without ‘adult supervision’, with my best friend at the Anne marie call me if you’re looking for a new best friend shirt but in fact I love this time. We met a lot of solo travellers and it really opened my eyes. Two years later I was jetting off on my own – and I loved it! Now it’s my favourite way to travel, I get to do everything I want to when I want to, I can meet and hang out with a new group of people if I want to, don’t have to compromise on days out/places to eat. I even ended up living and working in Thailand for 3 years because I travelled alone. I’ve lived in Australia for the last 4, again because I travelled alone I was in the same situation as you when I was 25. Deciding to solo travel was the best decision I ever made. It’s an incredible feeling to be in a foreign place and just doing whatever you want.
Anne marie call me if you’re looking for a new best friend shirt: A Provocative Statement in Modern Fashion
As others have pointed out, you can make the Anne marie call me if you’re looking for a new best friend shirt but in fact I love this trip as social as you want it to be. It’s really easy to meet people in hostels. If you’re worried about the dorm aspect I recommend booking private rooms in hostels so you can still go to the bar/communal areas to meet people. Two weeks in Europe would be awesome. You could go to three or maybe four cities depending on your route. As far as cities go I really enjoyed Salzburg, Nice, Porto, Amsterdam, and Barcelona. If you tell me your interests I could make more specific recommendations. It’s actually pretty awesome! It’s me and my husband and he can’t travel with me always due to health issues so I frequently travel alone. It’s awesome! I went to Uruguay by myself and just did my research on safety and it was awesome. People were great and I felt safe. I like booking apartments on booking.com instead of Air Bnb. I go on tours like EfUltimate Break, Intrepid, Gadventures and stuff so I have a safety back up and I’m not 100% alone.
I would love solo traveling but my main issue is money, my budget isn’t huge, so sharing costs by 3 or 4 helps a lot. Hotels are expensive for 1 person, car rental is very expensive, and bunch of other stuff. if you’re solo travelling you should be intentionally going to places where public transport is easy and not renting cars. Many places will be safer than your country of origin, most of Europe is safer than North America for example, so I wouldn’t really worry about that aspect much (if your a woman you have some extra considerations but there are still countless women solo traveling). I was in the Anne marie call me if you’re looking for a new best friend shirt but in fact I love this same boat, when the day came i got a ton of excuses. Stopped inviting them to anywhere and went solo for years. My current partner tho is interested in traveling like me so we’ve been going together now for 2 years.

Buy this Anne marie call me if you’re looking for a new best friend shirt
Was sort of in the Anne marie call me if you’re looking for a new best friend shirt but in fact I love this same boat as those guys never made plans, it all came down to me and they would complain if it wasn’t perfect. Now I’ve decided to not go with them again and look at their process of planning as a “disaster tourist” as we call that in our country :p I am a women. I’ve heard women-only hostels can be super fun and safe. I guess I’m just scared if I go alone I won’t enjoy it as much. There are groups online that go on trips together, some of them are little more expensive than you would pay but awesome people. I would suggest — as I do to anyone I know who is thinking about solo traveling — starting small first. So maybe a relatively short solo trip to somewhere in the US or to somewhere like Turks & Caicos or Costa Rica, both super popular (and safe) destinations for Canadians.
Another way to bridge into solo travel is to join a group tour, you’re traveling without partner or friends or family but you’re not on your own either. If that goes well, then that’s a good sign you will enjoy traveling solo. I’m not sure if you’re more introverted or extroverted, but for me – I found that I actually enjoyed things so much more by myself. What you don’t get from the Anne marie call me if you’re looking for a new best friend shirt but in fact I love this lack of company, you make up for with more freedom, time, and less consideration of others! And if you’re more extroverted, you’ll find you meet plenty of interesting people to talk to when you’re traveling alone. Without others, you can look more open for conversation to strangers. I believe I’m extroverted for sure, but I do have some imposter syndrome that I’d be bugging others. However, from what I’m reading on this sub, other solo-travellers seem quite friendly
I have solo traveled around Europe as a 20 something woman for a few years and can reassure you it is completely safe! It is definitely not for everyone and it isn’t all perfect – there are tough moments, moments of doubt, loneliness, etc – but these trips have been some of the Anne marie call me if you’re looking for a new best friend shirt but in fact I love this most rewarding things I’ve done in my life. Also – in terms of hostels – I’ve stayed in women only dorms and mixed rooms and for the most part they’ve been fine. If you’re comfortable I don’t think you have to look for women only hostels – a women only dorm should be fine! Echoing psyche_13 I’ve never seen women only hostels but almost every hostel I’ve been to has female only domes! You need a key to get into the rooms so no man can get in unless they’re staff. On my 2nd trip to Europe, I brought my girlfriend (wife now) on her first trip anywhere to backpack around Europe for two weeks.
I thought I’d save some money and not buy an updated guidebook (and this was just prior to smart phones and internet in your pocket information) so I used an outdated book and therefore had poor information. We landed in London on Day 1 without booked accommodations (I never booked accommodations ahead of time before). So my GF had to sleep in a room with strangers on her first night in a foreign place, on her first trip anywhere, not having any idea what a hostel was before this trip, and after walking around for hours looking for a bed. Epilogue: On our trip to Ireland this past Summer with our 2 kids, I suggested a night at a hostel on the Anne marie call me if you’re looking for a new best friend shirt but in fact I love this Aran Islands. She wasn’t having any of it 🙂 Yeah this is exactly what i suggested, and only because all other places – literally every room on the island – were booked. But still no. Yeah, I’ve backpacked all over Europe and I don’t think I encountered any women-only hostels – just women-only dorms My fav is usually a woman’s 4 bed. They usually have a bathroom/shower in the room. They are a little more expensive, but not that much more, and I do find the guests to be a bit less party hearty types. You’re never alone solo traveling unless you want to be. You’ll meet other solo travelers as well and it’s easy to make friends to share that travel experience with and part ways when you’re done.
You can sit and wait for people to join you and never go, or you can just go by yourself instead of waiting for X years. Lots of people travel by themselves it’s more popular than you might think Why wouldn’t you enjoy it as much? When you travel alone, you get to decide exactly what to do, and you don’t have to adjust to someone else’s diets, pace, sleeping patterns, or interests. I’ve travelled all over Europe alone as a woman. I highly recommend solo travelling, it has made me feel more independent and accomplished and I also get to do exactly what I want when I want it during my travels. Travelling with others has its perks, like sharing the Anne marie call me if you’re looking for a new best friend shirt but in fact I love this experience with them, but it also has its downsides. For example, I’m not picky about food and have no diets or allergies, but travelling with others who have more limited options sometimes means we have to walk for ages to find even one restaurant that suits them. When I’m travelling alone, I can pop into the first restaurant I see if I want to. Another example; I can’t sleep when it’s cold or the ac is on, but anyone I’ve ever shared a room with during travels has always needed the air conditioning to be on or the window to be open to be able to sleep. While I, again, can’t sleep when it’s cold. (No, putting more clothes on doesn’t help).
Travelling together means compromising and adjusting to others. That can sometimes drain your energy. You’re more free when you travel alone. I’m a Canadian woman who started travelling alone back in 2018. I started by going out West to BC and Alberta (I’m from Ontario) to see how I felt about it. It gave me the Anne marie call me if you’re looking for a new best friend shirt but in fact I love this safety net of knowing I had healthcare and spoke an official language etc. if anything went wrong. It was difficult at times, but amazing. I met many other travellers. Some who went home early, and others who extended their travels. I met sooo many people. I didn’t know Westen Canada was a hotspot for backpackers until then. About a year later I applied for my working holiday visa for Australia and have been there – with two visits back home – since 2019. I met tons of other travellers along the way. People who became friends and romantic partners, and then travelled with them. I also travelled alone heaps (bought a small car). All of it has been incredible, sometimes difficult, but I’ve grown more as a person than I could ever have imagined.
Now, my form of travelling was pretty intense, since I packed my life into a suitcase and left the Anne marie call me if you’re looking for a new best friend shirt but in fact I love this city I was in never to live there full time again. Happiest I’ve ever been. I’m now the ‘traveller’ among my friends and I see them when I go back to visit and chat online otherwise. I just convinced my best friend to try her hand at a working holiday visa in New Zealand and we spent a month there together this year. She’s the last person I ever thought would travel this far away with me I’ve also visited parts of Europe and Asia for weeks at a time when I’ve hopped back to the other side of the world from Australia. Those flights are expensive – so I always make the most of it when I leave a continent and try to jam as much travel in as possible. Also, Indonesia is super cool for a visit. I hope this inspires you a bit to try your hand at travelling. There’s so many ways to go about it and all of them are right!
Hey! I’m a woman about your age. Last year I took my first out-of-U.S. solo trip to the Anne marie call me if you’re looking for a new best friend shirt but in fact I love this Yucatan in Mexico, and then I went to Mexico City. Felt totally safe. In a few weeks I’m going to Ireland. (I invited many friends and they all said “omg yes!” and then never made any moves) There’s tons of blogs, YouTube accounts, there’s a podcast for solo female travelers, and a subreddit r/femaletravels When I went to Mexico I met many women in their early to mid 20s who were traveling in Latin America for several weeks to months. I follow a few of them on insta and they are still traveling a year later, doing lots of work trades. I hardly met any other Americans but in Western European culture, I think young adults of any gender are encouraged to be independent and explore. You’ll be scared the first time, but once you go, you’ll get addicted.
I would start out by going on a trip somewhere that’s just a few hours from home. Book an airbnb (I always suggest booking with a female host who has like several, 30+ high ratings) or find a highly rated hostel with a girls dorm. NoLa has some fun hostels and is a v fun place to travel. Best trip of my life was traveling solo to Greece! Just do it, I spent too many years waiting for people’s schedules and whims to line up with mine and when I finally went by myself… I made more friends on that trip than I ever did before, had the Anne marie call me if you’re looking for a new best friend shirt moreover I will buy this freedom to change plans when I felt like it, and didn’t have anyone being a wet blanket- lazy, sick, too tired etc. I took my first solo trip at 24 when i had a 4 day long weekend. None of my friends were available and I didn’t want to be by home by myself. Fast forward to today, I have been on countless solo trips, local and international. Traveling solo has been empowering and instilled so much confidence in me to be independent and responsible.
Good advice. The older I get the Anne marie call me if you’re looking for a new best friend shirt moreover I will buy this more I love r/solotravel . Particularly whilst sitting on the step in the doorway of a train slowly rattling & winding its way through the Indian countryside. This is how I started travelling on my own. I was sick to death of friends saying that they’re interested only to be wasting my time and delaying things so I just said that I have a ticket and if they want to come they should book separately. If you don‘t want to solo travel, check out companies like Gadventures! Small group trips, I‘ve done 2 with them and the were amazing! Came here to suggest this—I love solo travel but it’s definitely not for everyone! These guided trips are a great way to dip your toe in to international travel with some guardrails in place, and also to meet like-minded people
This is what I was going to suggest. There’s a group called Contiki tours that specializes in young adults traveling. Traveling solo with them is no issue. You make friends right away with your tour mates. Do that once or twice and you’ll feel at home doing it by yourself. Or even better, maybe you make a friend or two who will join you in your future adventures. Or have the Anne marie call me if you’re looking for a new best friend shirt moreover I will buy this best of both worlds – do a G Adventures/Intrepid etc trip and tag on a few days by yourself at the start or end of the trip. Did that once in Cuba and had a great few days wandering around Havana by myself before joining a tour group to see the rest of the island. I own a travel agency, and they are our go-to for this kind of young solo traveler who isn’t ready to step out on their own. Our clients become passionately loyal to that brand, and even introverts find friends on their trips. Just be prepared to meet or exceed the physical requirements for a trip. They are not joking about the requirements. I’d say begin with shorter trips or weekend getaways to nearby cities or regions to gain confidence and experience before embarking on longer journeys. Once you’re in a new place, join organized group tours to destinations you’re interested in. It’s a great way to meet people and explore new places in a safe and structured way.
All it takes is a plane ticket — the Anne marie call me if you’re looking for a new best friend shirt moreover I will buy this rest will fall into place if you’re open to it (and avoid the busiest seasons). Europe’s a fantastic place to start. Easy to get around, safe, lots of history — stay south or east to cut down on costs. Would you have a recommended time to go to Europe? I was supposed to go this June for 2 weeks in Italy, but the friend I planned to go with booked the entire trip with other friends and then asked me if I was ready to start booking things, so I backed out of that. If you’ve got flexibility, the best time to go is shoulder season — either just before it gets overrun with tourists for the summer, or just after, but the weather’s still good. So…May or late August/September. It’s less crowded, generally more pleasant, don’t need to book much in advance, flights are cheaper. General rule: if American kids are in school, it’s a good time to be in Europe. The other answer I could give is: the best time to go is literally whenever it works well with your schedule. If you get a bit away from the main touristy cities, Europe’s lovely in the summertime.
Italy in the Anne marie call me if you’re looking for a new best friend shirt moreover I will buy this summer is brutally hot and humid. Would recommend another time to visit if you can. It’s doable but Italy has a lot of outdoor sites and I find I enjoy them much less if I’m drenched in sweat I waited YEARS to travel because friends were always backing out, or I would break-up with girlfriends. Now I tell people when and where I’m going and if they want to come along, great. So far no one has come along and that’s fine. Taking the normal precautions will usually be enough. Research cities/countries before dropping in. Check your government webpage to see if any travel advisories exist. Get a female only hostel dorm room. You’re 25, so you likely won’t be alone for most of your trip. I meet people and hang out with people all the time in my travels. Traveling is the only time I break out and become a social butterfly.
In 2 decades of traveling, I’ve faced a lot of character building situations. Lol. Nothing violent. You become really good at problem solving and not losing your head at every problem. For instance I let a friend join me once who’d never traveled abroad. She lost her phone a week into the Anne marie call me if you’re looking for a new best friend shirt moreover I will buy this trip and had a week of solo travel after leaving me. This sucks! But nothing to freak about. She really appreciated my calmness in the situation and offering solutions. We had a solution and the rest of her trip was fine. Go solo! You can usually find cheap flights to Europe out of Toronto, especially in the off-season. You’re going to be about as safe in a European city as you are in a North American one. Making friends is pretty easy when you’re young and doing solo travel. Hostels are full of friendly people, and usually they’ll have at least some dorm rooms segregated by gender. Most cities in Europe also have the Sandemann’s free walking tour, and it’s so easy to casually meet people over a few hours of that. When I was younger, I would always wind up hitting it off with someone and then going to lunch or drinks or something after. Sandemann’s also usually has a (paid) pub crawl a couple times a week too, so it can be fun for a night out with a bunch of new people. It’s like a ready-made group of friends.
But really, go now. Once you’re in your 30s, you’re no longer a young traveler, and it gets much harder to have those spontaneous experiences with other young people. Go travel by yourself. I do it often and started going to nearby states and eventually started traveling abroad. I always say that as long as I have data on my phone I’m all set. Go alone. That’s how I first got to leave Canada and see the Anne marie call me if you’re looking for a new best friend shirt moreover I will buy this UK. I was 24 and it ignited a love of travel that’s lasted my whole life. I stayed in hostels and was perfectly safe (and this was before cell phones). Use good sense to stay safe, but don’t let fear stop you. My wife and I love to travel together, but she admits that she doesn’t have quite the same drive to travel as I do. For me, it’s like a reboot… a reset so I can make it through the tedium of the passing work weeks. It recharges me.
