They think I am cutting them off, because I am only going 10 over the limit, and they want to go 20 over. One of those “no good deeds goes unpunished” situations. I get over to let some of the fastest traffic pass, but now I am not allowed back in when I need to pass? Easier and safer for me to just stay in the fast lane. This is the first thread I’ve seen where the only way to get the right response is to sort ‘Controversial.’ If you’re starting your comment with ‘They,’ then kindly stfu! Where I’m from, people use both lanes to cruise there’s no passing lane. It’s much better. The biggest problem I’ve seen with the logic for left lane only for passing is that when there’s heavy traffic even if you are going 5-10miles faster than the speed limit there’s people coming up behind you trying to pass you and expect you to move out of the way for them. 99% sure everybody just thinks the left lane is the fast lane people don’t leave that lane they stay in it the whole time. The best state I’ve come across for this was Oregon, especially I-84. If someone drives up behind a slower car in the left lane, the Oregon who is traveling slower almost always immediately moves over to let the faster vehicle pass. Damn I miss that…

Damn I miss that… Around my area in MI the left lane is essentially just the speeding lane. Right lane goes 60 in a 55, while left lane 65+. I have no problem if people stay in the left lane so long as they are keeping up their speed. It’s technically designed for passing, but if you’re consistently going a higher speed than the right lane it’s just dangerous to keep switching back and forth The only time I ride in the left lane and I’m not passing is when the right lane is considerably more bumpy…and even then I’ll keep an eye on my mirrors and get over when someone approaches.
