They want money from you so they can use it to donate to charity to get publicity and make themselves look good, but only with your money. Didn’t you hear??Raytheon, BAE, and Lockheed are going to pay for war veterans housing, medical expenses, and career advancement. Good on them with their Trillions in war cash. Just remember, when a cashier asks you, don’t be a jerk. Just say no, or no thank you, or not today, or sorry fam, broke. They don’t want to be asking you as much as you don’t want to be asked. Because some people want to donate. When you donate you fell great about yourself and someone has a chance to receive a small portion of your donation. It’s not about who facilitates donations. Edit: Not saying I agree with the donation thing, but since I work in customer service, it never fails to irritate me to see shit like this. I don’t think they’re complaining specifically about the clerks though, just the automatic checkout screens. Lot easier to get vocally mad at a screen since those aren’t people just doing their jobs While I agree that grocery stores should donate money, they often DO donate to charities. Atleast where I live. And honestly; just because a company donates doesn’t mean that you “shouldn’t” donate. Not to force anyone to donate to charities, but what would be such a bad thing about both the grocery store AND the customer to donate? It’s not like charities ever get “too much” money for curing cancer. But no one should feel forced to donate if they can’t afford it. Every penny helps. If you don’t want to that’s fine. I imagine things like this add quite a bit to the pool of resources so it’s not so bad to hear about. I’m so tired of the panhandling at checkout, it’s always a guilt trip like, “Guess you don’t want to support youth. Do you hate kids or something? Jerk”
