We donated all this money that didn’t belong to us.” Don’t corporations get to use this donated money for tax exemptions or something. Can’t remember all the details Because if you donate that money to them, they can then “donate” that money into a non-profit they’re not associated with but is conveniently ran by a former CEO/COO/family member which will then turn around and use said funds to purchase food and supplies from the parent company at a markup. So they get the tax breaks and the money. Win win for everyone. Except the people who actually need the charity. They do this so they can deduct your donation from their taxes. If you donated any other way it would be deductible by you. Never ever donate with a supermarket or something like that. They have already made the donation, the “donation” you are donating is the company trying to recoup their cost. NEVER donate through a third party. That third party will use your money to make a larger donation that will just be a write off they can use to avoid taxes. DO NOT fund tax evasion.

That’s what Walmart does. They get customers to round up their totals and then Walmart “donates” that money so they get a tax write off. Kind of makes me think how much of a company’s “donations” are really just rebranded donations from their own customers. Why should they get a tax break on my donation? They are donating tbf, for example they’re donating 10 million for tax relief, but they have these donations box and for every dollar you put in that’s one less dollar they got to pay towards it. They take your money and use it to avoid paying their fair share. also, when you donate through them they write it off their taxes, if they couldn’t do that they wouldn’t make the effort to convince you to do it.
