People still need to eat, but if storms etc effect crops & transporting of foodstuffs, the supply of food decreases, driving up price – yet people aren’t gonna stop eating, so trying to crunch down on demand there is kinda futile. That’s starting to get more into Keynesian economic theory. That works on the theory that govt intervention in the form fiscal policy (as opposed to monetary policy that the RB uses) can control overall economic activity. So when demand is high & the economy is going well taxes are high & govt spending is slashed. High taxes dampen demand as people have less disposable income &govt doesn’t need to spend money as the general population is doing that.

RB raises OCR, banks will raise interest rates and we’ll cut spending.. but banks will still increase profits..
