It should be fairly obvious that a dealership is not going to pay a tracker subscription for life for every supercar that they sell. It was not the thieves that deactivated the tracker. The car owner was not paying for the tracker, therefor it was not working, and his insurance was invalid. If you say it’s secured by a chain, then you must secure it with that chain every time, otherwise it’s not secured by the chain and they won’t pay out. I’d always recommend telling insurance companies you don’t have any extra security fitted, whether you have or not. Sound advice. Same with a burglar alarm. Better not to tell them you’ve got one, because if you do tell them, and you get robbed when it’s off, no payout This isn’t necessarily true – you can get a bit of money off for decreased risk but not be held to having that security on. I worked for a massive UK insurer and on a lot of policies you’d get a bit of money off if you had an alarm but you didn’t have to have it on. Thr only time you’d have it written into your policy that you needed one was if you had valuables over a certain amount. The one I worked for would still cover burglary even if you left the house unlocked.
