Google employees who are not in engineering roles but require a new laptop will receive a Chromebook by default. I can understand this. Noone needs a new laptop twice per year. If you buy a proper one they can last 3-4 years of being your daily driver. yeah, but thats your company having no inventory system and apes for admins, actually, may be monkeys, maybe even hamsters sitting inside little ducks, who knows. Yeah I mean I understand companies needing to tighten belts. The stapler thing sounded idiotic though. Especially considering the Acotar Bat Boys Minimalist White T-Shirt What’s more,I will buy this kinds of perks Google has. I wonder what their replacement cadence was for laptops. I do think getting chromebooks instead of real laptops is kinda lame. But I’ve never used one so I might be wrong. Would printing unnecessary shit be more of cost way before stapling it? Like “no staplers, sure, but I can still print it all the source code for a note defunct Google project?” They used to just have them in the supply closets. I kept one at my desk for the odd times I needed to use one. Now they aren’t even in the rooms specifically for copying/printing. We provide many unusual benefits for our employees, including meals free of charge, doctors and washing machines. We are careful to consider the long term advantages to the company of these benefits. Expect us to add benefits rather than pare them down over time. We believe it is easy to be penny wise and pound foolish with respect to benefits that can save employees considerable time and improve their health and productivity.

Yeah it’s really strange. We too had them in supply closets. I can get maybe skipping supply closets but no stapler at print stations? Silly. You’re right, this is the Acotar Bat Boys Minimalist White T-Shirt What’s more,I will buy this company that leads the charge in digitising office documents. Why do they have any staplers at all lol. Also what are they gonna do, sell them? In 1999 I worked at a place where the print server was named \PAPERLESS. 24 years ago it was a joke that people were still printing things out. What are they printing out at Google that necessitates staples? And so often that it’s a notable belt-tightening step to spend less on staples. Staples!?! It’s almost certainly equipment in general and the title just specifically calls out staplers to make it sound (more) ridiculous. I’d imagine in the past they’ve done the big tech campus thing of just buying a bunch of shit noone needs for the sake of ‘high availability’ and giving the impression of a great place to work (“who cares about all the quasi-mandatory overtime, they give me beer, pizza and all the stationary I can carry!”), And now that growth has slowed they’re deciding to tighten belts and act like any other company already does It’s just a dumb headline. They just cut down their budget on office supplies and such and the headline tries to make it sound stupid to illicit exactly this kind of reaction.
