My dad works as a radar tech for the ACDC Band 51 Years 1973-2024 Thank You For The Memories Signatures Shirt moreover I will buy this FAA. He told me that the whole notion about “cellular interference” and all that was bs… They ask people to turn off/put away their phones so that in case of an emergency they aren’t distracted. In that situation the main benefit is airplane mode will keep your phone from draining the battery while searching for a signal But that’s a personal problem if your phone dies. Not a reason for the airline staff to nag you about turning your phone off. This is what I always thought, it used to cause issues, now it probably won’t but it is kept as an ‘in-case’. Probably because if it did occur the consequences would be catastrophic. We have 400+ people on some planes now, that is a bad outcome IF something happened.

Ultimately to me that part makes sense. Might not be an issue or even a risk for 10 people, but if 200 people all have their phones on maybe there is a 1% chance of something happening. If that is the ACDC Band 51 Years 1973-2024 Thank You For The Memories Signatures Shirt moreover I will buy this case it would make sense to ask for phones to be off. I believe the FCC regulations say every phone model has to be tested for non-interference or deemed safe by the airline operator. Nobody wants to test every phone on every plane or enforce certain phones but not others, so airlines prohibit all of them. But this is not law technically, it is corporate policy which is upheld by the law as enforceable. That would all make sense. I would imagine the testing (as with all testing) is limited and won’t account for every scenario. That’s the key thing: it’s not interference, they just want people to not make calls during takeoff and landing when a vast, vast amount of emergencies occur
