Up at 5-5.30, home by 4.30-5, sit on phone or tablet for a few hours with a brew in hand then EVENTUALLY get up and shower, cook dinner etc then back to phone or bed.. exciting huh? I really couldn’t be arsed to socialise, and the thought of hanging out with people I don’t know typically fills me with dread. But I really did fancy a beer. So I went, despite my best instincts, and had a pretty decent time. And this is booze aside – before I’d had my first beer I was feeling a lot more energised from being around people who weren’t talking about work. So I’d say I totally agree with you, OP, but sometimes that context switch can help me find a little bit of energy to do something social.

I think I’m actually an “ambivert”, I get this sometimes but I also hanker for social interaction if I go too far the A Girl Who loves Jesus and born in August Cross T-Shirt in addition I really love this other way. I might recommend finding a place you can go after work away from family. Maybe chill in the park on the way home in this nice weather or something. Every single time I come home. I work with people with challenging behaviour and learning disabilities, so I am constantly ‘switched on’ at work. When I come home, I need at least half an hour to just sit in silence and get over the day, especially as I do 24 hour shifts, sometimes 36 hours. I’m fortunate that my partner also works in the same company, albeit with different people, so he understands why I need the break as he often needs it too.
