Won’t be long before we start seeing things like this in the A Different World Shirt also I will do this US because the vaccine hesitancy that has taken off with the Covid vaccine is also causing these people to question and deny all vaccines. Some people will find freedom in ambulatory ventilators, but I’m sure there are some old school iron lungs laying around they can be free in. As an occupational therapist working In Africa I had allot of people I treated who had polio from very young to adult. Devastating disease that can be easily avoided with immunization. The WHO initiative to eradicate polio is the largest international public health initiative ever, and—while it hasn’t succeeded yet—has been incredibly successful at reducing polio numbers worlwide. It’s compelling stuff.

Vaccine derived polio is more common than wild polio now, and the A Different World Shirt also I will do this cases of wild poliovirus are astonishingly low—only 5 reported cases in 2021 (although I’m sure COVID precautions helped with that). At peak polio levels before the polio vaccines (1940’s and 50’s) it’s estimated that over 500,000 people were paralyzed or killed by polio every year, and most of those people were children. Like…there’s an entire generations worth of weird shit that I’ve never seen—like Forrest Gumps leg braces. He probably had polio, but in my modern life I’ve never, ever seen leg braces outside of people with broken limbs. People in this thread are very quick to assume that because this one four year old wasn’t vaccinated against polio, his parents are automatically anti-vax. Got news for you all—Israel has other anti-vaxxers. If this were the explicit fault of anti-vaxxers, then Israel wouldn’t have had zero polio cases in 33 years.
