The Who’s origins can be traced back to 1964 when guitarist and singer Roger Daltrey and bassist John Entwistle met at a local youth club in London. They were later joined by drummer Keith Moon and guitarist Pete Townshend, forming the nucleus of one of the most influential rock bands of all time. The band’s early sound was characterized by high-energy performances, powerful vocals, and Townshend’s signature windmilling guitar style. Their breakthrough came in 1965 with the release of their debut single, “My Generation.” The song’s raw energy and rebellious lyrics became an anthem for a generation of youth.

As the 1960s progressed, The Who’s music became increasingly sophisticated and ambitious. They released a string of classic albums, including “Who’s Next” (1971) and “Quadrophenia” (1973). These albums showcased the band’s mastery of songwriting, blending rock anthems with complex sound effects and orchestral arrangements. The band’s rock opera concept albums, particularly “Tommy” (1969), cemented their reputation as musical innovators.

The Who’s success was marred by tragedy with the untimely deaths of Moon in 1978 and Entwistle in 2002. These losses devastated the band, but Daltrey and Townshend remained committed to keeping The Who’s legacy alive. They recruited drummer Zak Starkey, son of The Beatles’ Ringo Starr, and continued touring and producing new music.
