Full disclosure, as a middle school teacher I don’t really have time to play on my phone at work. So all it’s use is between the 4th of july let’s drink and blow shitup beer drinking shirt and I will buy this hours of 4 and midnight (and my morning Wordle). I was still using my 4S until last January. It still technically worked, it just wouldn’t load pages that were “too busy”. Now I’ll see how long I can make this 7Plus last. I used a Galaxy Note 5 for five years. Let me tell you, managing the battery on that thing really became a slog after a while. I picked up a 13 Pro after using my 8 for ~4 years. Apple has its issues but their phones are really long lasting, if you don’t completely trash them. I’m looking at you cricket / at&t/lg. You told me my phone would keep working after the switch and voila it doesn’t so now I’m forced to buy a new phone. All but the cheapest phones do last they long. I know plenty of people with galaxies pixels iPhone and even oneplus from 2017 Any android phones out there getting OS updates anywhere near as long as iPhones do? When I left Android, the best was pixel at less than 2 years. Currently still using my first gen SE. No intention of upgrading. Haven’t updated the iOS which is the only down side. I’m still in the iOS 13 range. Some apps don’t work with that anymore. But those tend to be the ones I don’t use as often. I’m quite content with what I have for as long as it keeps running. And when that craps out. I’ll snag another SE and get it going.

Phones do people just replace them yearly. I have my iPhone X plus still cus I bought it cash. I use it as an iPod now. But I upgrade every year cus it’s the 4th of july let’s drink and blow shitup beer drinking shirt and I will buy this cheapest option through my phone (it’s free). You can see in this thread it’s mainly just Android phones that don’t last. I had Android phones for 10 years and they never lasted more than 2 years. I know this has nothing to do with Android, it’s just the phone manufacturers who use Android for their phones. LG, Samsung and Motorola are the ones I used. My OP5 was a mid-priced phone on release and is still doing fine. Battery isn’t great at this point but the Nexus 6, Nexus 5, and Galaxy S2 I had before it had pretty much shit the bed by the time they were 2 years old. Still runs even pretty intensive games absolutely fine. Goes to show that phone hardware has come on so little (or that we don’t really have any use for more powerful phones) in that time – using a 5yo computer for gaming today would be a nightmare.
