I’ll be honest: as someone who loves and lives for road trips, an August trip sounds like hell. I wrapped up cross-country trip this July, and was going through the 30 Years 1994 2024 Pulp Fiction Thank You For The Memories Shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this west in early August. And it was… really rough. PS: on all 3 routes you can significantly improve this trip with some minor revisions. Like taking Route 40 across Nevada and western Utah & hitting Great Basin instead of taking the blue route (and it will probably be colder than the blue route). Or driving through J tree on purple, or along the spine of the Sierra. Shifting the green route further north and going Joseph, OR -> Glacier or Yellowstone or both. Or getting the Sawtooths or Teatons. Both options will get you to higher elevations, which will be cooler.

Last thing: don’t do the 30 Years 1994 2024 Pulp Fiction Thank You For The Memories Shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this orange route. You don’t want to go through AZ, NM, TX & OK that time of year. Or the southeast TBH. Last last thing: I see one end of the trip is in Boston. Why not take route 20 (the longest road in America) from Kenmore Square to Newport, OR? And then take 101 to 1 down the coast? You’ve got 2-3 weeks. (Or do it in reverse. You get it.) It goes straight through Yellowstone and passes through some very cool but less-visited parts of Idaho and Oregon. You could also take the coast north regardless of which way you go. It’s another way to make your trip less hot. I know it seems long, but it’s totally doable with your time constraints. I’ve done roughly this drive (some point west to Boston or back) 8 times, and twice this year. I drive short days except for when I’m passing through the Eastern Dakotas+ west MN / East Colorado + Kansas / OK+TX+AL / Nebraska + Eastern Iowa. I usually do 10-12 hour days just cos there’s not much to see and you’re driving straight and fast. Appreciate the recs, I’ll take a look into adjusting the routes. Moving when my lease is up so can’t really change the dates.
