When you fail to get the 2023 Alcs American League Champions Arizona Diamondbacks Signature Shirt and I love this evaluation scheduled (or more likely, it is put off forever), update your resume with the new position title and experience and go shopping. It’s called self-promotion. There is a lot of (justified) cynicism on this sub. But this could be your employer’s way of offering you OTJ training for a more senior level position. Always take OTJ training. If you don’t get the pay for it, in a year or so you can go find that position and state that you have practical experience. I hire a FUCKING LOT of people in this situation, and most of them have worked out really, really well. Put out resumes for jobs that have the same position you do but are actually paying you properly. As soon as you land the job, quit and don’t look back. The suites have proven that they will show you no mercy, so don’t show them any in return. This happened to me at my previous job – significantly increased responsibility with no title or raise. I went along with it for maybe 6 months until I found a different job that offered both a better title and a significant raise (30%+).

On my resume I just put in the 2023 Alcs American League Champions Arizona Diamondbacks Signature Shirt and I love this new title. What were they going to do? Tell my new employer “no, that wasn’t his title, but yes, we did give him the extra work and none of the pay”? No reasonable employer will give you significantly more responsibilities w/o the accompanying title/raise. It’s one thing to provide you training before giving you the position. But it sounds like they just want either cheaper labor, or to have you be the interim manager before they replace you. I would want to know the length of the training period and what the eventual raise would be. But I also wouldn’t take the extra extra responsibility unless they were paying me at least 25-50% of the raise during the training period. Ask for clear expectations and time frames. Exactly what and by when. Another play is to simply recognize that there’s no good answer as to whether pay or proven ability comes first. Do the job as hard and good as you can. Worst case, you build your resume.
