To be fair, homeless people setting up homeless camps are terrible. They make huge messes. The kind you’d expect from a toddler or a teenager who never learned to clean up after themselves. They commit crimes. I get why they ban them because it might keep things from getting out of hand The thing is that this country, even the most progressive places like Seattle don’t have the infrastructure to keep people from putting themselves in those situations. Not enough mental health resources. Scrolling through Facebook today and a bunch of the local community groups I’m part of have real estate agents posting regular homes for 800k. Those houses were 350,000 not that long ago. Not enough housing if people had the money for it anyways. Laws made to oppress the lower class. The drug problem. It’s been handled terribly but personally I’ve seen those camps up close and met the people who reside there. These aren’t third world refugees who never stood a chance. And the people who live near these camps shouldn’t have to lose their local parks, sidewalks , and worry about their stuff being stolen/vandalized because people need a place to camp and do drugs.
