Kids are a lot more independent, more likely to pay for their first car, college, move out early, etc. But then they are usually under far less scrutiny for who they marry, how they raise their kids and normally don’t support their parents in old age.

Parents are more likely to have their adult sons living with them and still give them some freedom. Same parents are very upset if their daughter does the same so as a result, daughters tend to leave home earlier.
